GAVIOTAS is a highly dedicated and energetic group of rock musicians from San Francisco, CA. Simon Timony (lead vocals / guitar / songwriting) Rafael Corral aka...TRE' (bass / vocals) and Jeff Sheahan (drums) have taken the 'all or nothing' plunge of pursuing the American rock music dream through socially conscious, heavy, yet hook-laden tunes.
GAVIOTAS are currently promoting their 4-song E.P. 'Unite!' ; produced by Eric Feldman (P.J. Harvey, Pixies' Frank Black, Captain Beefheart). To get people out to shows they take an innovative approach to making new fans and selling CD's; peddling the album on the streets of San Francisco guerilla style, while collecting e-mails and phone numbers (a tactic Simon learned while working on local, grassroots political campaigns). GAVIOTAS could be described as accessible punk/metal with the hooks, drifting around pop, experimental and dub, while always staying true to their one unique sound. Influences include: Radiohead, Slipknot, Nirvana, The Clash, The Residents (Simon's Godfathers' band), The Mars Volta, fellow San Franciscans Metallica, Gershwin (George) and especially J.S. Bach. "Even though Mozart was the rock star, Bach wrote the best songs," Simon says.

ORIGIN:
GAVIOTAS takes their name from the Colombian village 'GAVIOTAS ' whose inhabitants dedicate themselves to creating some of the most ultra efficient alternative energy sources in the world.
For over thirty years scientists, engineers, artisans and ex-street kids have made sustainable development and appropriate technology real in a place called GAVIOTAS.
Wrenched from ecological disaster and great political turbulence, this miracle of social and environmental hope has achieved peace, prosperity and the regeneration of an ancient rain forest.
Sixteen hours from the nearest major city, Gaviotas villagers have invented ultra efficient methods of harnessing natural renewable energy sources; such as wind turbines, solar collectors and soil-free systems for medicinal and edible crops.
The United Nations has named the village a model for the developing world;
a village to re-invent the world.
Each inhabitant of Gaviotas plays a musical instrument.
